got bed?

So...I'm giving away not ONE but TWO beds...in the spirit of the world's biggest garage sale- except they are free to you guys...

The first is my Full-size PLUSH well-used but still decent Serta mattress. I also have the box spring and hollywood frame. Need a bed for the guest room, or no somebody in need? Give them my number PLEASE

the second is a Queen size futon (that folds into a couch). It's not perfect but excellent frame and (nothing gross on the futon).

Please want my beds...please come and take them away. I have Evan's loft bed disassembled in my front walk way...but it's raining out :( oh boo-hoo

and so it begins

Morning all! What no replies at this dark and terrible hour? I'm just riding the wave of one of my 3:30 am spontaneous wake-up calls of nature...and no I didn't have to go to the bathroom.

I would like to shout out some MADD props to (oops I don't mean to affiliate this message inadvertently). I am making my lists and checking them twice. I am expecting all you luverly people, who have a mind to sling boxes, this evening at about 6pm. I looks like PIZZA will be on the menu for simplicities sake. I am a Papa Murphy's fan plus I can't see paying that much more just to get my pizza in a box.

If you'd care to weigh in throughout the day I have been blessed by a MOVING MIRACLE. I was trying to watch a movie on my laptop last night, when my customary head meet pillow, mind meet dream land set-up didn't pan out, and low and behold I am magically connected to some mysterious internet. Thank you Flamingo Acres...bless your generous or woefully non-techie heart! (ACK having mentioned them I see I'm down to ONE bar. I must be quick)

I'm laying in soda and water and planning to order a Papa sized Chicken Alfredo (sub mushroom for tomato). I am happy to get the thin crust to lower the fat (I'm thinking of your Gall- Bartell) I dunno maybe a Cowboy? I don't want things to get too late so I'm expecting folks will either eat when they get there or be happy warming it up?

Blessed are the moving helpers for they shall inherit my undying gratitude!

Come and GET it...before I have to MOVE it

So as most of you know, I am gearing up for a relocation over Spring Break. I have been a diligent little pre-planner and am Purging till it hurts. The idea of a garage sale did cross my mind...but I just have TOO much to do the next few weeks. I've taken several car loads of the truly craptacular crap to Goodwill, but I am saving the too good to give to strangers for all you fine people. So...if you have a lack of STUFF in your life OR you'd like to take a crack at owning some of MY stuff- COME ONE COME ALL.

I have clothes (mine and Evan's), toys (m&E), books and cds (m&E), lotions and potions and CRAFTS and some kitchen stuff. I seem to have amassed a ridiculous quantity of canned goods so if enough folks pick the same day/weekend- I'll even make a batch of soup or chili. It will be a sort of low grade party with LOTS of door prizes.

It also goes w/o saying I could use help packing and moving all the things I can't part with...although I have a GREAT start on the packing and it will be done WELL in advance of moving day. The duplex will be available 3/15 but Trevor thinks he'll need to full weekend to do what needs doing. I asked for ASAP possession 3/24 but that being a Monday I really don't expect to get the big doings happening before that Saturday the 29th. I'm sure I'll rent a Uhaul, my knees just don't tolerate moving w/o a ramp anymore. I'll feed you and keep you full of whatever drinks tickle your fancy and shuttle you from your house if that's what you would like. I'd love to make a massive enslaught Saturday and Git 'R Done.

With this schedule I really only have 3 weekends left before the move (eek, GASP). I know the Wedding Shower is 3/15. I don't know what time it is however as that detail was missing from my invite? Come early for best selection, although I do have some items ear-marked for folks- it's first come first dibs.

So it looks like I'll be moving soon. I have an opportunity to share a duplex with some long-term friends that's two houses down from one of my best friends. wOOt

The timing is not ideal but I am SO ready to do away with my commute evils. I'd like to wait until school is out but then I'll be working so I can't win. Getting Evan to school through June will be an undertaking, but this location is so ideal- I've gotta jump on it. It's right on the bike path, the bus ride downtown is quick.

So if you have a deficiency in your lifting/carrying or packing life, I may be able to place you with a box and or crate, in the near future.

A toast to the small blonde person

He did it . He did it. By George I think he did it. I knew that he could do it and indeed he did!

Evan has done it. He broke his "Craptastic Monday" streak...and NOT a damn moment too soon. After two subsequent weeks of being SO out of control he "was unsafe to put on the bus" to his next Gig- and therefore had to leave work to pick him up from school, to be taken to his Tia's house...I had an CALL FREE first day back in class! HALLELUJIAH!!!!!

BTW, not only did he do "okay"...the little monkey brought home a "Great Day! Evan didn't need a single reminder" note from his teacher. I can't remember the last day I didn't need a reminder. He also had a good day in his other two daily arenas. There is MUCH joy in Mudville!

I did little things to show him how proud I was like calling everyone we know within his ear shot AND giving him oodles of hugs and smooches. I was SINGING at the store tonight. There is no relief like a break from expected stress. He got to have a special dinner. Chicken nuggets with mashed potatoes and carrot chips with a side of ranch for dippin'. Whatever it takes to ring his bell. He also got to claim 6 of the Poke'mon deck of 60 cards that he selected this weekend. Intellectually I know this is a bribe. My sanity doesn't care. I will take what I can get and if I must purchase two decks a month for the rest of his schooling this is a price I'm willing to pay.

Along with his favorite dinner, we had a "bubbly" toast. Vernor's Ginger Soda in double shot glasses. In case you're wondering there are about 10 double shot glasses in a 12 ounce can. I made toasts to his good choices and helping me have a great day. He made toasts to Poke'mon and the cantelope he got to eat for "dessert". Then in the last toast of the night he got VERY serious and looking me in the eyes said the following as we (plastic) chinked glasses.

"To the health of Love, the life of God, and the heart of the World." Here, here mono blanco here, here.

BTW, I give mad props to the new "reduced food additive" diet I'm trying him on. We have had nothing to eat that isn't made of food. I can't say it's the ONLY thing but even if it's giving him a nudge. I am convert! I realized the "fruit roll-ups" I'd gotten him were actually labeled "fruity-flavored snacks". geh

Blessed be

So...my ever so kind Dad unexpectedly offered to get the Internets for Evan and I at home with the logical understanding that it IS something I need/can use for school. Sadly living Offcampus AND way out of town, the service available as part of my exorbitant student fees is NOT available in my area.

Anyway, look for me to post more often AND be available online outside work hours. wOOt! So my days of furtively reading and making small if any comments are finally over.

I'm sure you'll all sleep better upon learning this EXCITING news.

Unexpected...

Thanks to all who care enough to comment on my stuffiness. I have some rather jubilant news. I got my Term paper for African Studies back this afternoon. Now I've written some rockin' papers this year and I GRATEFULLY acknowledge the assistance I've received from my many generous and talented friends. This paper however, I flew solo. Sascha did do a read through the day it was due but she made no changes...other than suggesting a conclusion, which I was working on.

I have a goal to get better at writing strong papers a week in advance but they are just somehow lacking. Oh well, not dead yet! The comments from the Professor were effusive to the verge of gushing. I got an A but the REALLY cool part was that in a class of 150 students there were only 8 As given. Also there were apparently rampant issues with citation flaws (ie plagiarism) which the Professor addressed with furious wrath in class. She demanded that anyone who had a red mark on top of their paper (citation violations, need for style manual) do a complete re-write starting with an interpretation of the University policy on Plagiarism including examples from their own papers. She used the classic carrot and stick. Students were given the opportunity to raise their grade a 1/3 ( C- to C) but failure to do this was punished with a 1/3 grade drop from the current grad (2/3 of the class had Cs, Ds, or Fs). So some ballsy fellow in the back asked if the students who had cited properly shouldn't receive an automatic increase for doing it right the first time. She agreed.

I got an A PLUS!!!!!! I DON'T have to do a re-write during Dead Week! I'm ever so relaxed for the final. With 30% of my grade (midterm) an A and 40% (term paper) an A PLUS I'm sitting pretty. Except now I am burning for my first ever A Plus in a class...but that would be gravy.

It's me being pushy and reminding everyone AGAIN that my party is NEXT weekend. Saturday April 21st, starts around 6pm (think Cocktail Hour). I am respectfully requesting potluck Tapas (which basically breaks down to cute little food bits that one might pile on a saucer sized dish. I will furnish Mojitos and at least one other fruity style "stick-an-umbrella-in-me-I'm-too-cute-for-my-own-ass" drinks. If however you felt more comfortable offering booze than gnoshables it would not be turned away.

If I knew what folks were planning/thinking about bringing, it would help me get some height on my near rapturous anticipation...but I'm good with surprises as well!

***Also as I know she is in a work frenzy just now, I'll put in a word for saschamacha 's Pampered Chef shin dig THIS Saturday. I think it starts at 5ish? But I'm planning to go very early so I really didn't pay attention.

Access to Birth Control Passes the Oregon House on Pro-Choice Lobby Day!

Yesterday, hundreds of pro-choice activists watched as the Oregon House of Representatives passed the Access to Birth Control Act HB 2700 with a strong bi-partisan majority! With a resounding presence in the capitol, pro-choice activists lobbied their legislators for pro-active, prevention focused legislation.

Please join us in thanking the following representatives for casting this historic vote!

Voted in Favor of HB 2700: Access to Birth Control
HD 28: Representative Jeff Barker
HD 11: Representative Phil Barnhart
HD 20: Representative Vicki Berger
HD 12: Representative Terry Beyer
HD 34: Representative Suzanne Bonamici
HD 32: Representative Deborah Boone
HD 37: Representative Scott Bruun
HD 5: Representative Peter Buckley
HD 54: Representative Chuck Burley
HD 19: Representative Kevin Cameron
HD 46: Representative Ben Cannon
HD 21: Representative Brian Clem
HD 45: Representative Jackie Dingfelder
HD 14: Representative Chris Edwards
HD 30: Representative David Edwards
HD 6: Representative Sal Esquival
HD 35: Representative Larry Galizio
HD 56: Representative Bill Garrard
HD 16: Representative Sara Gelser
HD 18: Representative Vic Gilliam
HD 55: Representative George Gilman
HD 17: Representative Fred Girod
HD 33: Representative Mitch Greenlick
HD 8: Representative Paul Holvey
HD 40: Representative Dave Hunt
HD 58: Representative Bob Jenson
HD 22: Representative Betty Komp
HD 44: Representative Tina Kotek
HD 1: Representative Wayne Krieger
HD 50: Representative John Lim
HD 38: Representative Greg Macpherson
HD 3: Representative Ron Maurer
HD 2: Representative Susan Morgan
HD 13: Representative Nancy Nathanson
HD 36: Representative Mary Nolan
HD 15: Representative Andy Olson
HD 27: Representative Tobias Read
HD 29: Representative Chuck Riley
HD 9: Representative Arnie Roblan
HD 42: Representative Diane Rosenbaum
HD 48: Representative Mike Schaufler
HD 43: Representative Chip Shields
HD 57: Representative Greg Smith
HD 52: Representative Patti Smith
HD 41: Representative Carolyn Tomei
HD 53: Representative Gene Whisnant
HD 31: Representative Brad Witt
HD 47: Speaker Jeff Merkley

Only nine representatives voted against HB 2700: the Access to Birth Control Act. It's as simple as ABC!

This year, with a pro-choice majority in legislature we have an opportunity to pass pro-active, prevention focused legislation that will dramatically impact women's lives and health!

The Access to Birth Control Act would prohibit discrimination against women, by requiring that insurance plans that cover prescription drugs cover contraception.

Did you know that nearly 50% of all indemnity health insurance plans provide no coverage for prescription birth control- costing women an average of $573 of their own money every year!

The Access to Birth Control Act would ensure that survivors of sexual assault have access to Emergency Contraception in hospital emergency rooms.

Almost one of five women have been the victim of rape or attempted rape. Emergency Contraception offers a safe, effective and humane option for victims of sexual assault to prevent pregnancy.

Read the bill.
For more information on the Access to Birth Control Act or NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon's legislative priorities contact Treasure Mackley at treasure@prochoiceoregon.org or call (503) 223-4510 x 14.

My son, the coolest person I know.

So for those of you who don’t mark time by such events…my Mr. Noodle has rounded the corner into Five-a-tude. This is a righteous thing.

It’s amazing how different he is in just a month of “this many” (fingers splayed). For one thing I did build up the importance for the last few months of his “being four”. So he was ready for the shift.

Por ejemplo, upon reaching 5 he started to get an allowance. I’m modeling this off chachi’s successful management of her little guys. He gets ONE dollar for every year of his age, every two weeks. This means two major changes to the status quo. Number One: I am NO longer responsible for funding his every whim. He must save his allowance and decide what is important enough to buy that he wants to save his money for it. It also means that he takes an active role in “helping the family”. Basically chores, except I’m not directly tying the two together. Dreikurs recommends that the stress be on the “contribution” not each individual chore. We both have jobs to help the family. So far he is off to a great start. He helped me to compile list of responsibilities that feel “fair”. He clears the table after meals/ I do the dishes and the cooking. He gets his clothes into the hamper/ I do the laundry. He wakes up on time in the morning/ I keep my cool and don’t nag him about being late.

Other changes I’ve noticed include a marked turn toward the philosophical. He has started to talk about “the big subjects”. The other night on our drive home, he asked me “how do they make pigs?”. When I explained that “pigs aren’t “made” they grow”. He countered with “when there were no pigs on the planet how did they get the first one?”. “Oh ho ho!” thinks I, “here we go”.

So I tried to break down the creationism/evolution argument to a five year-old level. I have to be sensitive because my Dad (the Southern Baptist) could be spouting off innumerable shite about such matters. So I took the “some people believe X and some people believe Y” tact. Then I decided WTF I’m his Mama and I’m gonna weigh in on this one.

I explained, that “I agree that all animals are family and that they grew and changed according to their environments and the other animals around them”. He listened VERY intently and then replied “I agree with you Mama. It’s silly to think that all animals are not the same.”

No sooner did my glow-o-momular-pride die down than he said “but only God can create life.”

Oh holy crap! “Did grampa tell you that?”

“No, it was Michael” (his best bud and 6 y/o idol)…

“oooOOOOooo I see…Well there is a life force, a creator, do you believe THAT is god?”

“yes Mama, and he watches out for us and takes care of us…”

“Evan, have you ever considered that god is a woman?” (brief pause)

“No, he’s a boy- like me.” (Internal giggling about the root of this argument having VERY similar basis in Christianity)

“Well Mamas make babies in their bodies so if God made all life, couldn’t she be a woman?” (I recognize this discussion is getting a wee bit intense, but I’m ready to ride this out until he calls Uncle.)

“No Mama, God is a man – but he has a wife.”

“Ahh that explains it.”

“Mama, I know the name of God.”

“You do? Do you talk to God?” (the rule-out religious zealot clause)

“No, he doesn’t talk to me. But I know his name.”

“Oh how do you know it then?”

“ I just know. It’s “Agnando”.

Immediately the opening strains of “Fernando” by Abba start to play in my brain. <stifle snicker>

“Oh that’s very interesting. What else do you know of“Agnando” ?

“He lives many galaxies to the West. He watches over us and takes care of us. He loves us.”

I decided to leave it there with my young one happily secure in his beliefs, willing to hear the empirical truths of science AND understand them but still with the faith of child that Agnando the benevolent, omnipresent and irrefutably MALE god watches over him.

World w/o end...Amen.

Christmas Wish

Dear Santa~

All I want for Christmas is for someone with a burning desire for the 1990 Nissan Sentra 2-dr (I purchased as an "investment" in October assured to be worth MUCH MORE than I paid for it) to cough up the $600 I need to get out of it before they shut off my utilities on December 27th. I have been VERY good this year and would like to keep the lights and heat on until my financial aid check happens on or about January 10th. The rent lords can wait as they enjoy the $25 penalty they get with a late payment.

World without end...Amen

things to know about Mamie

Busy Body- ENFJ

60% Extraversion, 60% Intuition, 40% Thinking, 66% Judging

You manipulative busybody! You're what some might call the "backseat driver" of life. You know, the one who knows exactly what everyone else is doing wrong and how they should go about fixing it. You're always trying to change everyone else.

The strange thing is, you can generally get whoever you want, to do whatever you want. What's that? You want me to stop insulting you...well, alright...but only because you asked so nic...WAIT A MINUTE!

Stop sticking your cumbersome nose where it aint't wanted. You're like an oversized sniffer dog, trained to sniff out everyone else's problems, yet oblivious to your own.

For one you worry excessively. The fact that you're also incredibly sensitive to criticism probably has you on the verge of tears right now. Get a grip.

You have powers of manipulation unlike any other. You know all the gossip and you know how to ultimately use it as blackmailing material.

You could potentially be the ultimate evil villain... if not for the fact you choose to use all of your powers for good, rather than evil. How honourable. How admirable and praiseworthy. How pathetic.

While you're helping others out and pushing them into the limelight, you're left in the background to inhale the dirty smoke of their success. Nice one.

*****************

If you want to learn more about your personality type in a slightly less negative way, check out this.

*****************

The other personality types are as follows...

Loner - Introverted Sensing Feeling Perceiving

Pushover - Introverted Sensing Feeling Judging

Criminal - Introverted Sensing Thinking Perceiving

Borefest - Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging

Almost Perfect - Introverted iNtuitive Feeling Perceiving

Freak - Introverted iNtuitive Feeling Judging

Loser - Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceiving

Crackpot - Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Judging

Clown - Extraverted Sensing Feeling Perceiving

Sap - Extraverted Sensing Feeling Judging

Commander - Extraverted Sensing Thinking Perceiving

Do Gooder - Extraverted Sensing Thinking Judging

Scumbag - Extraverted iNtuitive Feeling Perceiving

Prick - Extraverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceiving

Dictator - Extraverted iNtuitive Thinking Judging

a ray of hope there still may be

Okay so I was bummed over my mid-term, but today I found out that I STILL have a "C" in the class AND I got a mighty-mighty pep talk from my Math GTF. Then I had a lovely tea time with Will. We're really starting to open up about the BIG stuff. THEN just now I logged in to my University email and had a message from my History of Women in the US Professor. She was congratulating me on my paper. Said she didn't usually let people know how they did ahead of everyone else but she wanted an "attachment of my paper so she can post it on Blackboard for the other students to learn from." She said I did "exactly what she wanted done in the paper and I clearly mastered both the material and tone". (tee-hee) It's especially cool because she let me add the class when it was full AND I'm taking the second section next term. wOOt

So that was a helluva pick me up after my stumble last week.

I just got the results of my first mid-term. In Math 111, I got a 93%!!!! Considering my test scores in the class up to then had been not so great this mid-term will go a loooooong way!

I still miss the icons I knew how to manipulate text with...but I endeavor to carry on.

Loved the weather today...all rainy and sunny and colorful.
